An All-in-Wonder version of the R7500 is expected within a month or so of the products’ launch in September. ATI has done away with the LE/VE designations, ans is instead using this new number scheme wherein a 7000-class part is a DirectX 7 part, and an 8000-class part is…wait for it, a DirectX 8 part. The Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Smart WiFi Router is. The team brings considerable OpenGL kung fu to bear in the new Radeon 8800 chip, a supped up version of ATI’s R8500.Īs for pricing, the 64MB R8500 board is planned to have an SRP of $399, and should hit the street somewhere around $360-370 (US$), and the 64MB R7500 board will have an SRP of $199, and will street for a bit less. NETGEAR Nighthawk X8 R8500 Tri-Band WiFi Broadband Router, AC5300, with MU-MIMO, Quad Stream, 6x GbE, USB3.0/2.0. Another interesting addition to ATI’s product mix is the arrival of their new FireGL 8800 board, which is the first product from ATI that leverages its acquisition of the FireGL graphics workstation chip design team.

While the R8500 represents an entirely new architecture, the R7500 is an updated and enhanced version of the current Radeon architecture, though ATI promises it will deliver superior performance compared to current-generation Radeon cards. Both chips are used in new graphics boards of the same name–Radeon 8500 and Radeon 7500.

This chip is complimented by the Radeon 7500, a “value-oriented DirectX 7+” part that looks to blow the doors off of GeForce 2 Pro and MX in the cost/performance arena. ATI has responded with new flagship graphics chip, the Radeon 8500 (R8500) that had previously been known as the R200. But with the arrival of DirectX 8 and GeForce 3, nVidia raised the ante again. A popular mantra around nVidia’s headquarters is “nowhere to hide,” meaning their goal is to be pervasive in every area of personal computer graphics including desktop, mobile, Mac, high-end, low-end, and everything in between.ĪTI made a strong showing with its original Radeon-based cards, and produced a high-end card that could just about go toe-to-toe with GeForce 2 Ultra.

Terms of use.ĪTI is tired of being “that other graphics chip company.” With the PC graphics landscape essentially reduced to two major players, ATI knows that to stay a major player they have to take the fight to nVidia, and not just be an also-ran who makes “good enough” parts.
